About

The concept of the Realdolls was first created by Rod Hotly a few years ago when inspired by a Frank Zappa interview, in which the man himself expressed a deep fascination with the bizarre concept of cybersex and all the other freaky shit that came with it in the 80’s! Why was no-one writin’ about this stuff??! The first gig had Rod dressed in a baby blue Troop tracksuit with a white Jimmy Saville mane underneath a white trucker hat conveniently beneath 3 ulraviolet lights, with a huge stern German and a Japanese shootfighter doin’ PublicEnemy SW-1 style shit in pink doo-rags with Terminator shades on! DJ Peter Parker and Ricky X were on 3 MPC drum machines; it was madness.

After some time the Realdolls became a more serious live show with a band. Ricky was now playin’ drums and was joined by Real Dave on bass, Ivan on keys and Yo-Yo (A female Japanese/Manc mobile party machine) on backin’ vox. Their style of tunes and playing was very original and damn good but most importantly – fun. Parker saw this new show and was bowled over by the Dolls’ flavour. Hotly asked him to produce the beats for the recording of the tunes but it wasn’t before long that he took a break from Fingathing and joined the band himself. He started a healthy production/tune writing team with Reality Dave.

The band have now come full circle, trying lots of different ideas, sounds and styles, often live and swingin’ either way they remain unafraid to lay it all on the line for the audience and the moment. The Realdolls fuse Punk, Electro, New Wave of British Heavy Metal and Hip Hop to make Pronk! their style of music; or sex punk (spunk for short). It’s all about gettin’up and gettin’ down in Manchester. with a core line-up consisting of Rod Hotly on vox/FX, Dave Ja Vu on bass/FX, Parkertron on keys/FX and Yo-Yo on backin’ vox/keys.
